Burke County Public Schools
Burke County Public Schools is closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Florence. We will follow our inclement weather policy and protocols and work closely with Burke County Emergency Management Officials, the NC Department of Transportation, the NC Highway Patrol and local law enforcement. We are evaluating the forecast regularly and will make decisions accordingly related to operating schools as well as going forward with planned extra-curricular activities, including sporting events and field trips. We also will work with authorities should any of our schools need to be used as shelters or our buses need to be used for evacuations. We will notify families as soon as decisions are made. Inclement weather announcements are made via our SchoolMessenger all-call system, our website (www.burke.k12.nc.us), our social media pages (www.facebook.com/bcps120; Twitter @BurkeCoSchools) and through local media, including newspapers, radio stations and TV stations. We ask for patience and calmness as we work with state and local officials and make decisions based on numerous factors, some that will be in our control and some that will not, but with the safety of our Burke County students and staff always at the forefront. As a reminder, parents always have the option of deciding what is best for them and their child if they ever disagree with an inclement weather decision. We encourage families to personally prepare and heed advice from local authorities and state emergency management officials.
