Dear Colleague,

I hope this newsletter finds you happy, healthy, and recharged and that you were able to enjoy a much deserved, but probably too short, break at some point over the last few months. As we transition from the hot, hazy, and sometimes rainy, summer in Charlottesville to cool breezes, shorter days, and the colorful leaves of fall we do so with excitement and anticipation.

Of course, we’re especially excited to welcome a dynamic, talented, diverse, and LARGE group of new students to the University. In fact, the enrolling Class of 2022 is the biggest and most diverse in University history. These new students will join a campus community that is energized and eager and fully committed to collaborative exploration and discovery and efforts to serve society and the public good.
Please click here to access our new first-year class profile. We hope this information is helpful as you counsel students and families. Below are a few additional important updates to share:

•   Applicants to UVA may now apply using either the Common Application or the Coalition for College Access application which is in development and should be fully operational by October 1.

•   We will accept self-reported testing from applicants beginning this fall and ask for official scores once the student is matriculated in the summer. Applicants are no longer required to submit official SAT or ACT scores.

•   We will host our fall open house programs for African-American and Hispanic students on September 28 and 29. These events are wonderful opportunities for students of color to visit the University and experience life as a UVA student. Invitations will be sent to prospective students who have created a UVA account but if you know of students who are interested they can join our mailing list and receive an invitation by registering here.

•  Please share our new website, Voices from a Diverse Community, with your students who would like to learn more about UVA’s interesting and inclusive community.

As always, we are grateful for the work you do in your communities and schools guiding families through this increasingly confusing and stressful college admission process. We look forward to working closely with you during the year ahead and we wish you the very best for a successful and fulfilling year. If you or your students or families need anything, at any point, or have questions or suggestions on how we could improve, please let me know.

Best wishes for a great fall.
